Super Mario Galaxy Film Trailer Debuts, Introducing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices
Nintendo and Illumination shared the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. It was showcased in a dedicated Nintendo presentation that highlighted the forthcoming animated feature.
The follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will send Mario to the far corners of the universe. In his journey, he meets a different royal figure and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
A Space-Faring Quest Inspired by Classic Games
Much like the Wii console classics that provide its foundation, Mario will venture away from the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. Throughout his extensive trek, he will reunite with some recognizable characters, such as the Luma, a popular character from the original cinematic release.
However, it seems Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who seemingly commands metallic abilities. Notably, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also features references to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Celebrity Voice Actors Come Back and Grow
The film will welcome back of the primary vocal talent, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
A Significant Period for Mario
Mario's latest cinematic adventure is set to release around the time of the 40th anniversary of the first Super Mario Bros. title. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 is shaping up to be a important time for Mario and his friends.
Nintendo has a trio of new releases publicly declared for the upcoming year, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Launch Date Set
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
