One senior officer who rushed to the help of a partner who was ambushed by a knifeman received the King's Commendation for Valor.

Sgt Tim Ansell fought with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown after he placed a blade to the throat of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the officers and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver subsequent to a road collision in that location in mid-2023.

Brown knifed and cut both Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster before PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a electric weapon.

"Officer knifed," PC Wolstencroft stated over his radio.

Officer-mounted and dashboard camera video shared by the police department revealed Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a hood covering head, approach to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a weapon extended.

He struck the policeman who stumbled and dropped to the street, before Sgt Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the floor although being repeatedly struck with the weapon.

PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and waited for a open target, bringing the confrontation to an end.

Sgt Ansell stated audibly: "Can I get something on my neck here, I've been stabbed in the throat."

Sgt Ansell sustained multiple lacerations to his neck and additional injuries to his limbs and body, while Sergeant Foster received slash wounds.

Authorities stated Sgt Foster employed his hands to control his fellow officer's blood loss prior to paramedics came.

The latest honor follows subsequent to the trio of policemen were granted organizational Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the police federation award from the local union branch in spring 2024.

They were also awarded a North West Bravery Award in July 2024.

"The actions of each policeman eventually protected each other and ensured no civilians suffered any wounds."

Brown received a sentence to an indefinite hospital order in early 2024, as stated by authorities.
